The Evolution of Brown Class Clothing: From T-Shirts to DTG Printing and Beyond

The journey of Brown Class Clothing is a testament to how creativity and family support can transform a simple idea into a thriving business. It all began during the pandemic when I, the owner, received a Cricut cutting machine as a gift. Which sparked the creation of unique t-shirts out of quarantine-induced boredom. Me and my family started selling custom shirts and stickers at Van Buren Swapmeet in Riverside, California, we began to build a community around our designs, especially our popular Riverside-themed shirts. As we expanded our capabilities with a sublimation printer and later a DTG printing machine, Brown Class Clothing evolved into a community-driven clothing brand, catering to local youth sports teams, churches, and small businesses. This narrative explores the inspiring clothing brand story of how a family-owned business grew from humble beginnings to an established presence both locally and online.

Humble Beginnings

A Gift Sparks Creativity

Our entrepreneurial journey began with an unexpected yet transformative gift: a Cricut cutting machine. This simple device opened a new world of creative possibilities during the quiet days of quarantine. With plenty of time on my hands, I began crafting unique t-shirts and stickers. This pastime quickly evolved from a mere hobby into something more significant. As I experimented with designs, my creativity blossomed, and Ifound myself drawn to the idea of sharing these creations beyond my family and friends. What started as a way to alleviate boredom soon turned into an opportunity to connect with a broader audience. The creativity behind these initial creations formed the base of Brown Class Clothing, a brand focused on family and community. This early stage was crucial, as it set the tone for our brand's identity: creative, personal, and deeply rooted in community values.

Early Days at Van Buren Swapmeet

In the early days of Brown Class Clothing, the Van Buren Swapmeet in Riverside, California, served as the perfect launchpad. Every Saturday and Sunday and occasional Thursdays, me and my family set up shop, eager to connect with the local community. The swapmeet was more than just a marketplace; it was a vibrant hub where stories were shared, and relationships were built. Despite initially giving away more shirts than what we sold, the Riverside-themed designs quickly became a crowd favorite. This exposure was invaluable as it allowed our brand to gain recognition and a loyal following. Observing people wearing our shirts around the swapmeet was a gratifying sight, solidifying our presence in the community. These early experiences taught our family the importance of persistence and adaptability, also crucial traits that would guide our future endeavors.

Building a Community Presence

As Brown Class Clothing continued to thrive, building a strong community presence became a central focus. Engaging with local customers at the Van Buren Swapmeet was just the beginning. Our brand turned its attention to creating designs that resonated with various community groups, such as local youth sports teams, churches and local businesses. In fact, we proudly sponsored a local little league football team, further reinforcing our commitment to the youth. This fostered a sense of belonging and mutual support between our business and its clientele. The commitment to serving the local community extended to supporting small businesses and providing personalized shirts for ice cream truck workers and school events. This boosted visibility and built lasting relationships, making community a core part of our brand's identity.

Advancements in Printing

Transition to Sublimation Printing

The transition to sublimation printing marked a pivotal moment for us. After recognizing the limitations of our earlier methods, we invested in a sublimation printer. This technology allowed us to produce more vibrant designs, although it restricted us to polyester white shirts. However, the shift expanded our creative possibilities, enabling more intricate designs and color combinations. Sublimation printing also improved the durability and quality of the shirts, meeting the growing expectations of our customer base. As we embraced this new technology, we began to serve a broader clientele, including local shops and various community events. The journey into sublimation printing was not without its challenges, but it laid the groundwork for future growth and technological investments that would further enhance our offerings.

Embracing DTG Printing Technology

Acquiring a DTG printing machine was a transformative step for us. After a year and a half of saving and extensive research, we invested in this technology to enhance production. DTG printing allowed for a wider range of fabrics and colors, significantly expanding product offerings. This enabled high-quality prints that met diverse customer needs. Despite a steep learning curve, mastering DTG printing opened up new collaborations with local groups. It also boosted custom orders, further embedding us in the Riverside community. This innovation improved both product quality and operational efficiency, underscoring our commitment to delivering exceptional products.

Expanding Product Offerings

We broadened our product line by adding hoodies on top of graphic t-shirts, maintaining a strong emphasis on quality and creativity. This diversification improved the customer experience and met the needs of both individuals and community groups.

Launching an Online Presence

In 2022, Brown Class Clothing took a significant step towards reaching a broader audience by launching our own website. This online presence represented a new chapter in our business journey, allowing us to showcase our products to customers beyond the Riverside area. Our family-run business managed every aspect of the website's development, ensuring it reflected our brand's values and aesthetic. The online platform offers a streamlined shopping experience, where customers can easily browse all of our designs and purchase at their convenience. By moving online, we could engage more effectively with our audience, offering promotions and updates on new arrivals. The website also provides an opportunity to tell our brand story, emphasizing our commitment to community-driven clothing and family values. This digital expansion not only increased sales potential but also strengthened our connection with existing customers, enhancing brand loyalty and reach.

As we move into the present day, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the community. We diligently strive to maintain high-quality standards, whether by introducing new designs, enhancing our website, or providing appealing discounts.

We aspire to be the t-shirt company you choose for your next purchase.
